LET ME DOWN- Groove Saloon
“LET ME DOWN” is the second single by Vancouver’s own psych-pop group, Groove Saloon. The band has reinvented themselves with a new name and entirely new sound, as they formerly belonged to the indie-folk band by the name Good for Grapes. The single follows their debut track “IF I DON’T MAKE IT”, which is the track that hooked me into their work from the very beginning.
Their trippy and funky basslines are what drew me in immediately, from the moment I heard “IF I DON’T MAKE IT”, and their latest track was no different. Both songs have a guitar solo that completely ties the track together, and in “LET ME DOWN” it is the finale or climax to the song, which wrapped it up perfectly. Both tracks also feature harmonies from female vocalist Lana Crockett, which compliment Groove Saloon’s lead vocalist beautifully.
I’ve always been bias towards loving a bassline with some funk to it, but this one is exceptional and simulated the feeling of floating. The music video for “LET ME DOWN” perfectly captures the song visually, as the colour scheme of orange, yellow, and purple, emulates the groovy 70s feel I would expect from a band with their name. It is warm and energetic, and makes me feel like getting up and dancing, despite the fact that I couldn’t dance to save my life. This song feels like not caring that I can’t dance, not worrying about who is watching, and just feeling it.
